The Pathway of Carbon in Nature

چکیده
Late in his exceptional career, well after he’d received the Nobel Prize for elucidating the pathway of carbon in photosynthesis, Melvin Calvin turned his attention to organic geochemistry. The progression was logical: from the pathway of carbon in a cell to the pathway of carbon in nature. In the former, there is an array of precise, enzymatic catalysts. The latter is actually a web of reactions that leads from primary biological products to the organic debris accumulating in earth’s crust. What mechanisms control the flows of carbon within it? It’s worth knowing because, among other things, those mechanisms modulate Earth’s levels of CO2 and O2. On page xxx of this issue, Hebting et al.(1) provide striking new information about one of the web’s most general features.

Effect of Organic Substrate on Promoting Solventogenesis in Ethanologenic Acetogene Clostridium ljungdahlii ATCC5538
Clostridium ljungdahlii is a strictly anaerobic acetogene known for its ability to ferment a wide variety of substrates to ethanol and acetate. This bacterium presents a complex anaerobic metabolism including the acetogenic and solventogenic phases. In this study, the effect of various carbon sources on triggering the metabolic shift toward solventogenesis was considered. The bacterium was grow...
متن کاملOxygen reduction reaction on Pt/C at the presence of super paramagnetic of Fe3O4 nanoparticles for PEMFCs
In this paper the role of super paramagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPI) on Platinum nanoclusters on activated carbon (Pt/C) for electrocatalytic oxygen reduction reaction was considered. Four composites of Pt/C and super paramagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles were prepared with the same total composites weight and different loading of Pt/C (1.2, 0.6, 0.4 and 0.3 mg ). The composite attached ...
متن کاملFinding the best angle, between carbon nanotubes and four groups of antibiotics, using computational methods
In this work, the first in the world of science, the focus was on the best angle of connection between carbon nanotubes and the most widely used group of antibiotics. While having the highest stability, in terms of energy, we have the best angle of to connect to the in vivo delivery of intraoperative antibiotic binding with carbon nanotubes not lost. It will never work in the world of science. ...
متن کاملAdsorption of Carbon Monoxide on a (6, 6) Armchair Carbon Nanotube: Ab initio Study
Perhaps the more interesting nanostructures with large application potential, from transistors to probes, are carbon nanotubes. One of the most widely uses of these nanostructures are their applications as gas detector, which is an important application in the field se of environmental technologies. The present work studies the adsorption of carbon monoxide on a (6, 6) armchair carbon nanotube ...
